About Me

Hi, I'm Wes
I'm a developer, CFA Charterholder, and former investment analyst who's been writing code for over a decade. In my time working in asset management and corporate finance, I built tools to support and guide investment decisions. Back then, writing software was a means to an end, but it gradually led to a career shift into full-time engineering.
Since 2020, I've been with Bloomberg working on projects including BQuant, data pipelines for bond market indices, and the Bloomberg Professional Mobile App.

Career History

Senior Software Engineer - Mobile
Bloomberg L.P.
London, UK
Jan 2026 - Present
The Mobile Engineering Department at Bloomberg develops and maintains the Bloomberg Professional App for both iOSand Android.
I build and maintain features for a cross-platform mobile app in Swift and Kotlin. My team owns the "Home" and "Securities" pages, which are among the app's most heavily-used features. Our backend is a suite of microservices, most written in TypeScript and running on Node.js.

Senior Software Engineer - Bloomberg Indices
Bloomberg Index Securities Limited (BISL)
London, UK
Feb 2024 - Jan 2026
BISL is a regulated subsidiary of Bloomberg that builds broad-market and bespoke financial indices. My team built tools to ensure data quality and reduce time-to-market for new index launches.
I was the lead engineer and user experience designer for two internal web applications used by Compliance and Product.
- Index Quality Controller (iQC)— Provided Compliance with visibility into a network of automated quality checks on large datasets. Users could onboard new datasets, resolve quality issues, and manage data usage in downstream index calculation processes.
- Index Data Catalog— A searchable, canonical reference for datasets and fields used in index construction. Product Managers relied on the Catalog for data discovery, research, and index development.

Software Engineer - BQuant Help Center
Bloomberg L.P.
San Francisco, California, USA
Jan 2023 - Feb 2024
BQuant is Bloomberg's financial data science platform, providing programmatic access to data within a cloud-based notebook environment.
I was a full-stack engineer and lead frontend engineer for the BQuant Help Center, a web-based content portal featuring example projects and API references for financial professionals.
I also built an automated content-delivery pipeline that enabled Technical Writers to publish documentation independently and integrate it into the site's information architecture, reducing engineering dependency.

Developer Advocate - BQuant
Bloomberg L.P.
San Francisco, California, USA
Aug 2020 - Jan 2023
BQuant clients are quantitative financial researchers. My role was to support the effective use of the platform through documentation, code examples, and demonstration projects to showcase core capabilities.
As a Developer Advocate, I was a communication bridge between engineers and users, helping clients better understand BQuant's tools and translating external feedback into product improvements.

Financial Analyst & Software Developer
The Escape Game, LLC
Nashville, Tennessee, USA
Feb 2018 - Aug 2020
The Escape Game, LLC designs, manufactures, and operates live puzzle-based experiences at over 45 retail locations across the United States. Teams of players work together to solve a series of challenges, hoping to escape from a themed environment within a set time limit.
My primary role at The Escape Game was financial planning and analysis. I administered the annual budgeting process, maintained company cash flow forecasts, and advised the executive team and venture capital partners.
I also developed internal software that integrated the customer booking platform with the enterprise accounting system, automatically converting transactions into journal entries. This streamlined the month-end close process and supported the company's growth.
